The Art of the Parler Era - Summer School with Excursion (Nuremberg, Heilsbronn and Augsburg)
Einschreibeoptionen
The Parlers were a family of artists active in the second half of the 14th century with international appeal. The pictorial and architectural works created under their direction are considered turning points in the history of northern Alpine architecture and sculpture. The five-day excursion will take us to Augsburg and Nuremberg, two outstanding metropolises in the late medieval empire. There we will analyse and discuss works by the Parlers, their contemporaries and major works by subsequent generations of artists and place them in the artistic production of the late Middle Ages. The programme will be enriched by an excursion to the cathedral in Heilsbronn, a jewel of medieval art.
The international Summer School will take place in cooperation with Prof. Dr. von Hülsen-Esch and Dr. Jakstat (Düsseldorf), Dr. Jakub Adamski (Warsaw) and Prof. Dr. Assaf Pinkus (Tel Aviv/Vienna). There will thus be a unique opportunity to exchange ideas in front of the originals with proven international experts in this field, but also with students of art history from the various participating countries. The aim of the event is an intensive, object-based analysis of the originals. Problems of style and building history will be discussed directly in front of the buildings and objects as well as their function and significance. The observations made on site should contribute to a critical reflection on the historiography of art and open up new perspectives on the forms of artistic production in the late Middle Ages.
